The Palazzo delle Esposizioni hosts from 10 February to 10 June "The Apple of Magritte", the free admission workshop exhibition, inspired by a publishing project of the MoMa, New York Museum of Contemporary Art, and brought to Italy by the Fatatrac publishing house. After Matisse and Degas, artists touched by the event in the past two years, 2018 is the turn of René Magritte, told by the sign of the illustrator Klaas Verplanke, the author of the illustrated book "The apple of Magritte".
The collaboration with i Educational services of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni and his Art shelf it consolidates more and more, filling the library specialized in international art publishing for children, with more than 2000 art and artist books.
The laboratory exhibition invites readers, especially the little ones, to observe the world around them with a free look, able to see also the most common objects with an unsuspected identity, able to reveal something new. The exhibition, in addition to the sketches and the original tables, presents an ironic and amusing set-up to actively involve all audiences in a game of unusual combinations in which reality and representation, below and above, inside and outside coexist recreating those visual short-circuits for which Belgian artist is so famous.
René Magritte (1898 - 1967) is one of the greatest exponents of surrealism. In his enigmatic paintings the most common everyday objects are transfigured through deformations, unexpected combinations and improbable details that generate a destabilizing effect in the viewer. The original drawings and preparatory sketches of the volume "The apple of Magritte" recall the bizarre creations of the famous artist in a vivid imagery capable of distorting reality and showing the surrounding world in a new light.
The exhibition is enriched by a calendar of visits and workshops for schools and families to get to know Magritte and the surreal imaginary that populates her paintings and create combinations of images and words together to revolutionize reality. And again a special competition to involve the classes in the preparation of the exhibition. The curious exhibition itinerary urges a playful and interactive approach with works of art and is aimed particularly at small visitors. The latter are, in fact, invited to play with nonsense and to reflect on the links between objects, words and representations, thus freeing the imagination.
